Our philosophy
We believe in sustainable agriculture, and within this framework we aim to stand for excellence in both wine production, and in environmental and social welfare.
Our aim is to go beyond the concept of “organic,” as we constantly search for a balance between the quality of our product, the wellbeing of our customers, and our respect for the environment. Thanks to the adoption of state of the art production techniques, it is possible to restore the natural rhythm of the vines, making precise interventions and removing damaging or superfluous handling thus aiming to produce a superior quality Euganean Hills’ wine, whilst respecting the territory.
“We enjoy sharing our devotion to our work, our love for the precious fruits this land gifts us. Farming traditions of the past guide us in today’s journey, providing a basis for the important research that we continue, with an eye always looking towards the future”
Luigi Rossi Luciani
Wines of the Euganean Hills, research and innovation
The studies and experiments carried out in the past few years have allowed us to deepen our knowledge of how to care for diverse grape varieties in every single plot of our land. In the winery we have pursued new, soon-to-be-disclosed techniques, methods able to enhance the innate qualities of this area’s fruits. In the countryside we are experimenting with a new kind of robot: a 4.0 piece of industrial machinery which is partially electric and able to treat the vines with UV rays, thus avoiding the use of harmful chemicals. The Carmenere grape variety is the seed, the starting point of this project that’s destined to speak for an important stylistic change, and for a new awareness of wines from the Euganean Hills.
Tracking the process
In compliance with the specifications of traceability required by sustainable farming processes, we are proud to say that we are 100% independent. Our process is a closed chain within which all steps of production are carried out internally, from pruning to bottling.
Respecting the “natural” product
We preserve and defend the “natural” qualities of wine. This leads us to adopt a filtering process which doesn’t cause molecular damage, and which keeps the ethanolic wine properties of taste, aroma and colour intact. The crystalline residue at the bottom of the bottle is a guarantee of this process.
Abolishing scheduled treatments
In choosing organic farming of the vineyards, we don’t carry out any scheduled treatments, privileging a less standardised technique. By relying on close monitoring by a technician, we can make sure we only carry out treatments where, when and if necessary.
Adoption of 4.0 industrial machinery techniques
In our efforts towards organic wine growing we use innovative cleaning techniques, for which we employ only mechanical equipment, instead of the more conventionally used chemical kind. For instance, in the countryside we are testing out a new kind of robot: a self-driving 4.0 industrial machine which is partially electric and able to treat the vines with UV rays, meaning we can avoid using harmful chemical products.
Microbiological improvements of the soil
Each year we introduce improvements to the microbiology of the soil, including the organic farming technique of employing different kinds of green manure such as nitrogen-fixing plants like broad beans and peas. To do this we rely on the Bio-district of the Euganean Hills, with whom we are collaborating to find out the types of plants that are most suited to our soil.
Protection of local fauna
Wildlife protection is an essential part of our organic farming activities. Our vineyards are safeguarded while fully respecting the local fauna, through the releasing of hormones which mislead the animals, and through the installation of nets allowing the passage of smaller animals.
Protection and enhancement of the land
To protect the soil and avoid wasting water, we make use of a water storage reservoir and adopt fertirrigation techniques; this stops us from crushing the soil with tractors and from polluting. On completion of this enhancement project we expect to preserve ⅔ of the estate’s woodland, thus sustaining the present features of biodiversity.
Bottling, storage and transportation
Our eco-friendly wine production also includes bottling, storage and transportation processes, leading us to choose lightweight bottles, Nomacorc and cork stoppers.
Organic wine farming
Our efforts towards organic farming are also reflected in our innovative cleaning techniques, for which we employ only mechanical equipment, instead of the more conventionally used chemical kind. For instance, in the countryside we are testing out a new kind of robot: a self-driving 4.0 industrial machine which is partially electric and able to treat the vines with UV rays, thus avoiding the use of harmful chemical products.
Organic production
Our wine is organic insofar as our vineyards produce organic grapes, farmed according to organic principles, without the aid of chemical substances and without the use of genetically modified organisms. Therefore we don’t use phytosanitary chemical products (pesticides), but only copper, sulphur, and other extracts with natural origins, and in smaller quantities than the thresholds set by organic protocols.
Vegan production
Our wine is also vegan wine. Throughout the cycle of production, no animal products, foodstuffs, ingredients, filters, membranes or other processing aids are used; but rather plant-based products such as potato starch and pea proteins.
